Children's shoes from Auschwitz. It's a terrible reality, but it happened. I want to open my eyes a lil, visit, and take it all in. I think understanding what all of those poor people endured is as close to holding those poor people's hands while they went through what they did. A Polish folk singer wears a head cover with embroidery typical of the town of Hrubieszów in Eastern Poland. She also wears traditional red beads found in many folk costumes through out Poland and the rest of the Slavic world. Red was the colour associated with beauty and elegance to the ancient Slavs. Even in modern times the Russian word for beautiful is homonymous with the word for red.
