J.C. Wormer House, Detroit, MI

I found a damaged black & white shot of this house on the net and redid it here in antiqued color. The name given with this view was J C Warner but apparently this was not correct. There is another view of it in the Burton Collection here: quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dpa1ic/x-dpa2976/* Here is an etching from themaskedman55 which lists this house as the residence of F.B. Now Or Neverland

( EXPLORED!!! ) ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. No, it's not HDR. I've learned a few new techniques in the last few days, this is the 2nd one I've tried out using this technique ( the first was the Lee Plaza Piano ). These lyrics from Midnight Oil kind of hit home when I think of this building, the abandoned Packard Plant in Detroit: "Suitcase Full Of Good Ideas History That's Filled With Tears It's Now Or Neverland" The Packard Plant was THE state of the art facility when it opened in…

October The house at 82 Alfred Street, Detroit is a remaining piece of architecture that harkens back to city’s Golden Age. Abandoned Detroit, Old Abandoned Buildings, Old Buildings, Abandoned Places, Detroit Ruins, Old Mansions, Abandoned Mansions, Beautiful Buildings, Beautiful Homes

82 Alfred St, Brush Park, Detroit

This one still stands and is occupied on the west end of Alfred Street. It was built for JP Donaldson in the 1870's, relatively early for Brush Park. For a time it was used as a boarding house and is now again a single family residence. It appears to be intact on the exterior at least! Rebirth

Enjoy my art? Visit the Shane Gorski Photography Store and enjoy it in print! View On Black Step into the light and view it large! As we came down the stairs and arrived on the third floor, I specifically searched for "the trees" that this floor was notorious for. These trees were about 5-6 inches in diameter and they were growing out of the rotten books and ash from the fire long ago. This was an unforgettable scene. 287 & 295 Alfred Street, now both houses are mothballed though missing most of their original features. This view in this link was taken in 1976 and shows the one on the right, the G.S. Chandler house appears to be still occupied while 287 is already in bad shape: www.flickr.com/photos/74359763@N02/6722055245/

Castles Made Of Sand

( EXPLORED!! ) Fall into the sea.... eventually. I took this picture, of an abandoned mansion in the Brush Park district of Detroit, while I was out with my good friend Mike Lanzetta. He shot it from one side, me from the other. I processed the shot and was going to post it when I saw that he had also added birds to his shot ( he NEVER adds birds! :P ). So it sat on my harddrive for a month until today when I touched it up and added the frame. To see Mike's really cool shot go…

James V. Campbell House, 261 Alfred St, Brush Park Detroit

Here's another one that made it through. Just down the street from the Ransom Gillis House, it has been rehabilitated, hopefully for another century or so. The Faulconer House, 111 Watson St, Brush Park, Detroit

Originally the home of lumber magnate, Robert C. Faulconer on the corner of John R and Watson Streets. A quote from the Detroit Free Press in 1891 reports: "It is an attractive house from the exterior but the feature which strikes one most conspicuously is the fact that proportions rather than details characterize the dwelling. It is exceeding spacious, having been built for room and comfort rather than outside beauty which is noticeable in many homes, the interior of which may be very…

269 Winder Street, Brush Park, Detroit

This one looked like it was headed directly for a glorious restoration. The Mansard roof was tarped and the appropriate signage erected declaring a bright future. What happened? Same old, same old! This website shows a big blank spot where it stood, along with a fascinating sequence chronicling the condition of the various tarps: fadeddetroit.blogspot.com/2010/01/brush-park-failure-269-...
