DIY marshmallow shooters -a fun kids craft for summer time!
Here's my painting-a-day #5 "Lucy" 5"x7"x1.5" acrylic on canvas. She's up in my shop for $60 U.S. Shipping included. I knew I wanted to paint some larger blooms this time but the tropical leaves tucked behind them were a totally spontaneous decision! I like them and may have to explore these more.
A nice little roundup of fun crafts for kids to make that parents will actually enjoy doing, too! A lot of these crafts and activities are for kids of all ages,

God's Eye Tutorial (OP sez: "...Originating in Mexico the Huichol people call their God's eyes 'Sikuli.' which means "the power to see and understand things unknown." When a child is born the central eye is woven by the father, then one eye is added for every year of the child's life until the child reaches the age of five. The result is a mysterious and magical object....")
First, students removed strips of burlap on all sides to create fringe. To create a space to weave, students removed two strings of burlap. Then, they used plastic needles to weave their yarn (the weft) over and under the warp. I glued small dowel rods to the top of each student's weaving and the following class I showed them how to add a handle and fringe at the bottom as an option.

One of the first projects my first graders made were these “All About Me Crayons”.  We started the day by reading the book The Day the Crayons Quit, which is super funny and adorable. Then, they traced a crayon template and drew the wavy black lines of the wrapper.  They chose their favorite color for … … Continue reading →
