She has came to the Clam House on 133rd street in New York City. It    was in one of the most notorious gay neighborhoods in New York. Gladys was also headlined at Harlem’s    Ubangi Club. There she was backed up by a line of drag queens. She was a heavyset woman who only    dressed in men’s clothing. Bentley also played piano and sang her own lyrics to popular songs of her    day.
