We are getting lots of Goldfinches in our garden ,snacking on the sunflower hearts and black sunflower seeds seems to be their favourite hobby...

Two goldfinches have a mid-air fight after struggling to get enough space on a bird feeder in a British back garden. Photographer Laurie Campbell snapped away from a hide in his garden for 30 hours to get a picture he was happy with. Laurie, from Berwick-on-Tweed, Northumberland, said: "It can take weeks for the goldfinches to find this bait but once they do, they are hooked."

European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) Two goldfinches have a mid-air fight after struggling to get enough space on a bird feeder in a British back garden.

Thistle, removed a lot of these plants from the sheep pasture, always carefully leaned in to smell the wonderful scent before using dad's homemade tool to pluck them out!

The Thistle of Scotland, alongside tartan the thistle is perhaps the most identifiable symbol of all things Scottish. The prickly-leaved, pink or purple-flowered thistle is the emblem of the Scottish nation.

Cardoon is as a Artichoke Thistle.  It has become an extremely important medicinal herb in recent years following the discovery of cynarin.  Cynarin has been shown to improve liver and gall bladder function, stimulates the secretion of digestive juices, and lowers blood cholesterol levels.
