Week 14 : Party in The Art Room!!

This week has been super fun for many of our students and that's because there has been lots of partying going on. I like to reward students for positive behavior and when they have earned 9 "Green Days", they earn an art party. Green days are earned when no reminders are needed for classroom rules. As much as the students love having an art party, these art parties drain me. They take so much effort and being the organized person that I am... art parties can get a bit chaotic and not as…

Moving figures inspired by Futurism. reproduce the movement of a figure using the method of overlapping sequences and force lines used by the Futurists in their works. Using a manikin of paperboard we have drawn on a white sheet, some moving figures with colored felt-tip pens. Then we added the force lines around the figure to emphasize movement, and with a brush and water we dilute the color of the markers. The watercolor effect of the colors has given further dynamism to the design.

easy printing on fabric

I have been working on a number of sewing projects, one being an art quilt to hang on the wall. And since I typically never buy printed fabric and instead make my own, I set out to create some unique quilt squares with lots of texture. I am always trying to find new and different ways to create pattern and texture on the surface of fabric and paper and using simple materials is my favorite way! If you haven't heard of scratch foam then you are missing out! It is basically a thin piece of…

How to: Make DIY Colorful Geometric Textiles with Sharpies and Rubbing Alcohol

Science was never my best subject, but every now and then I find myself using a little book learning in my everyday life. And this project? Definitely one of those times. It turns out Sharpie marker ink mixed with rubbing alcohol creates a very striking effect. Add some ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape, and you'll be able to make a unique, DIY geometric textile worthy of hanging on your wall. The resulting effect is something akin to tie-die, but not in the 70's hippy sort of way... in the modern…
