Luftwaffe pilot Heinrich Bartels poses next to the rudder of his Bf109 G-6 fighter plane in the Hasani aerodrome in Kalamaki, Greece on Nov 17, 1943. The marks on the rudder indicate 70 aerial combat victories. Bartels' official record was 99 victories, both on the Eastern Front and over Germany. Bartels was shot down by a US plane on Dec 23, 1944. The wreck of his fighter and his remains weren't discovered until Jan 26, 1968 near the town of Meckenheim, Germany.
