plunged head-long into some of carson mccullers' shorter works this week. "the sojourner" almost slayed me. currently plowing through "the member of the wedding" before working my way up to "the heart is a lonely hunter". guess this is the summer of the southern gothic.
Carson McCullers ~The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter ('40) Reflections in a Golden Eye ('41) The Member of the Wedding ('46) Ballad of the Sad Café ('51). " Mrs. McCullers ... Mr. Faulkner only writers since D. H. Lawrence w/ original poetic sensibility. Prefer Mrs. McCullers to Mr. Faulkner; she writes more clearly; prefer her to Lawrence because she has no message." – Graham Greene http://www.flickr.com/photos/62895823@
