Worms, Germany: is a city in Rhineland-Palatinate district, on the Rhine River, about 60 km (40 mi) south-southwest of Frankfurt-am-Main. It has about 85,850 inhabitants. It is the only German member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network. When I stopped to spend the night at the local youth hostel on a trip in the region in 1982, all I saw were American GIs, herds of them in the train station. They'd slap me on the back and invite me out for a beer, thinking I wore a uniform too.
