Sotheara Chov, the first Cambodian female wrestler to take gold medal at the 2009 SEA games in Laos, will be representing Cambodia at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. A high school sports teacher and a passionate advocate for gender equality, educating young girls to aspire to play sports, will compete in Women's freestyle -48kg on August 17.
Representing Cambodia in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio is US-born Cambodian swimmer Sovijja Pou (half Cambodian/half Thai). He is one of the two Cambodian Olympic swimmers and will compete in the 100-meter freestyle on August 9. He is currently a Pre-med senior studying at Brown University and is one of their top swimmers. He plans to practice in Cambodia focusing on efforts to combat tropical diseases.
Standing 5'9" in height, Cambodian Taekwondo medal hopeful Sorn Seamy is in Rio representing Cambodia in the 2016 summer Olympic games. She lead the Cambodian Olympic Team as the flag bearer. At the young age of 19, she won Cambodia's first gold medal win at the 2014 Asian Games in 44 years in Incheon, S. Korea. She will compete on August 20 in Taekwondo Female +67kg division.
Cambodia's long distance runner Dr. Nary Ly is keen to represent the country in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The Phnom Penh born Research Scientist who recently broke the 3h mark in Valencia marathon will be competing in Track & Field Women's Marathon on August 14.
