As political master of the Austrian Empire, he was the architect of an alliance system among the European powers after Napoleon's defeat - a system which tried to undo the damage to traditional dynastic politics wroght by the French revolution.

Klemens von Metternich ~ he engineered Austria's entry into the War of the Sixth Coalition on the Allied side, signed the Treaty of Fontainebleau that sent Napoleon into exile and led the Austrian delegation at the Congress of Vienna which divided post-Napoleonic Europe between the major powers.

One of the most important statesmen and diplomats of his era, Klemens von Metternich was significant during this period because he made many decisions that affected not only Austria but, in several instances, made policies that affected much of Europe, especially at the Congress of Vienna.
