The Ehrentempel was a neo-classical style pantheon designed by Reichsarchitect Albert Speer and was built to house the sarcophagi of the sixteen Original Party Comrades of Hitler's in the NSDAP who lost their lives in the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch where they attempted a coupe for power as a countermeasure against a communist takeover, which had already occurred with the short-lived Bavarian People's Republic after a coupe by Marxist leader Kurt Eisner.
