(Chorus) Let’s hang out At the Literacy Café Where you just need a book Choose a strategy or two   Let’s hang out At the Literacy Café You’ll improve your reading skills This is the place to be - - - - - - - -     I remember what I read When I Comprehend I read the words correctly My Accuracy is great I read the words smoothly My Fluency’s just fine I’m Expanding my vocabulary When I read and use new words (Chorus)

(Students write names on post it if representing one and put it on board) Literacy CAFE Board (Comprehend, Accurate reading of words, Fluency with speed and intonation, and Expanding vocabulary). I could work with this to make it a High School Room Theme

NOW THIS IS A GOOD IDEA!!! Download FREE CAFE posters and list standards addressed under each!!!

Our Cool School: daily menu and standards I'm loading 2 files which are pdfs. 1 is the GPS grade version, one is a plain jane version with only the CAFE letters and titles, no standards.

Literacy CAFE ; Menu Bulletin Board Headings (DOWNLOAD)

Literacy CAFE Menu - colour for each strategy group. Someone suggested child name groups at bottom so chn can reach the box to be able to move their names easily. Some people have all same colour card for strategy

I think these could be modified for an self contained SPED classroom :)

Many of the primary teachers at my school were buzzing all last year about the Daily Five and The Cafe. I bought both books at the beginnin.

@balancedlitdiet --> "CAFÉ" is a method developed by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser (same authors that wrote the Daily Five) that provides appropriate practice with reading aloud.

Assessment- Guided Reading: This resource provides educators with an overview of the responsibilities involved in guided reading. This type of assessment is effective because it is individualized and specific to student needs. Additionally, this resource also provided ways teachers can incorporate the Literacy CAFE strategies as well as print-outs that teachers can obtain and utilize during the guided reading.
