Gives me chills -- At Auschwitz, Livia Ravek was branded with the number 4559. Now her grandson, Daniel Philosoph has honored her by getting the same tattoo. We are moving from lived memory to historical memory, noted Michael Berenbaum, a professor at American Jewish University in LA, Were at that transition, and this is sort of a brazen, in-your-face way of bridging it.

He had already been in trouble with the authorities, having been sentenced to two years hard labor for marrying a Jewish woman. We know little else about August Landmesser, except that he had two children. By pure chance, one of his children recognized her…
