A Sioux dress with a dentalium shell yoke was made about 1900 in South Dakota of "saved list” (cloth with the selvedge incorporated in the dress) indigo wool cloth. The extensions along the hem, which refer to the legs of the animal, are also decorated with dentalium shells. The tubular dentalium shells were a prized commodity, used as currency among some tribes; in others, three shells were the equivalent of one buffalo robe.
