country music isn’t a dirty word. Hell no. Country music is way more than rednecks’ hymns and politically condemnable ballads. Country music can actually be pretty harsh against all that crap. And that’s the country music we love. The one that tells stories, stories from the dirty south, stories about being on the road, about drinking away your broken heart or finding your way back home. Country music has this in common with Blues that it is a soulful protest music genre first and foremost.

Johnny Paycheck was the stage name of Donald Eugene Lytle - born in Greenfield, Ohio - a country music singer and Grand Ole Opry member most famous for recording the David Allan Coe song "Take This Job and Shove It".

For those who might be wondering what differenciates outlaw country music from plain country music: In the late 50′s Nashville was the capital of country and gave the genre a sort of Nashville slick sound that many songwriters decided to ignore or fight starting with movements like the Bakersfield Sound (founding fathers were Merle Haggard and Buck Owens among others). This anti-Nashville reaction spread through the south, from Bakersfield, thru Texas, Tennessee and all the dirty south.

It seems that celebrities flipping the bird is as common as them giving a courtesy wave. They give the finger to everybody that may be getting in position to gaze at them and be utterly disappointed.
