November 12, 1537: Jane Seymour's body was taken from Hampton Court Palace by chariot to Windsor Castle for burial in the chapel of St. George. Jane died the month before of puerperal fever just days after giving birth to her son Edward (King Edward VI). A great procession followed the chariot, led by Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk and his son-in-law Henry Grey, Marquis of Dorset (father of Lady Jane Grey). Mary (Queen Mary I) accompanied the procession and acted as chief mourner.
