A sundog, scientific name parhelion, from Greek meaning "beside the sun"; also called a mock sun or a phantom sun, is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.

Sun Dog - A sun dog is an atmospheric phenomenon where you can see additional bright patches in the sky on either side of the Sun. Sun dogs occur because of sunlight refracting through ice crystals in the atmosphere.
