G/C Stanley F Vincent (far right) oversees the visit of King George VI to RAF Northolt on 26 September 1940. Following the deployment of No 303 Squadron RAF from 2 August, the 43-year-old station commander did what he could to instil a grasp of the English language in the Poles, who were given bicycles, told to don wireless transmitters and made to wheel around Uxbridge football pitch in flying formation, responding to orders they received to turn one way or the other.
