Next up is the tallest peak in all of Germany, the Zugspitze. There are two ways to go about a trip to the summit of the mountain. You can either take the nice and easy 10 minute cable car ride or take the 8+ hour hike. These are two very different options, so you will have to decide what is best for you. The hike is no easy task and is even broken up into two days by many.

...Once down there, you will walk by the Höllentalangerhütte, and then follow the river through the valley. Soon enough you will be welcomed to the Hollental Gorge. The walk through the gorge is incredible as you have the massive rock walls on either side and the flowing river down below.

One of the highlights near the Bavarian town of Garmisch Partenkirchen is the Alpspitze Klettersteig that brings you to the summit of the mountain. Lake Riessersee | A natural treasure in the Wetterstein mountain range
South of Garmisch in the Wetterstein mountain range at 785 metres above sea level, you’ll find a historic gem: Lake Riessersee. The formation of Lake Riessersee goes all the way back to medieval times. That’s when the lake was artificially created in a forest glade. Behind the picturesque body of water near the Zugspitze, you can see the Waxenstein (2,277 metres) and the Kramer (1,985 metres) mountains towering over it. On clear days, the Zugspitz range is mirrored on the surface of the water.
