Payal Khandwala’s Fall Collection Is For The Daring Bride

How often does one see a bride wear menswear blazers? Yet, when Payal Khandwala styled benarasi lehengas with lean outerwear, it didn’t once strike us as unconvincing. The designer, this season, intends to empower the bride. In an attempt to filter the expected coyness from the wedding silhouettes, Khandwala infused power in the tailoring. So while, benarasi silk was a definitive fabric of choice, it wasn’t necessarily in the cheery colours that we’ve lapped up in the past. It was, however, drenched in gold. Threads of the preciously hand-woven fabric gleamed under brooding coats. This poetic play of textures and colours (purple jewel tones with crisp rusts) resounded through the collection. So did the lion motif that sent across the message, loud and clear – The queen is the new king. The collection was presented in collaboration with Lakme Salon.
