I had my son draw on paper each of the letters to form the word HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I photographed these letters, then digitised them in Adobe Illustrator by using the live-trace function. This enabled me to create large, crispy text. I printed each letter on an a4 piece of photo paper and then got him standing infront of my light to photograph him with each different letter.
