A little red, white and blue . . .
An eastbound Burlington Northern coal train snakes through the curves at Sully Springs, North Dakota, on June 29, 1994. The train is led by specially-painted SD60M No. 1991 to honor U.S. troops serving in Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War. A large seal of the United States graced the mostly white front of the locomotive. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
1991 in the Badlands
In July 1991, Burlington Northern patriotically-painted 1991 leads three other Cascade Green SD60Ms through the North Dakota Badlands at Sully Springs. The 1991 was only months old at the time of this photo.

Retired from the tracks, many old trains find themselves in glorious graveyards, filled with car upon rusted car. Photos of these scrapyards let us witness the magnificent decay of these mighty vehicles.
