Seasons Greetings. A harp seal pup peers at me as it waits patiently for its mother to return. Pups are born on Canada's ice covered Gulf of St Lawrence in February. The pups nurse for about two weeks and then are abandoned to learn how to be a  harp seal on their own. Hunger forces them into the water to learn how to swim, how to eat and what to eat.  It is a steep learning curve in a harsh environment.  The pups now face warming seas and thin ice that collapses before they are able ready…
