This became part of a series called Unwilling Journeys, and shows pictures of my grandmother, sent from Jamaica to Scotland on the death of her mother -nutmeg, coffee, cinnamon, spices from her home, boats, and a book telling in map form all the journeys my female ancestors were forced to take. The tiny boats are plastic models from a hobby shop covered with paper and lined with lead tops from Spanish wine bottles, saved for me by a kind Spanish waiter called Manuel.
