A parmesan cheese lid fits a regular mouth Mason jar perfectly. I've used the Parmesan jars as banks. The Mason jar would be better.

This is a great idea. The seams on the lip will be perfect to hold the mason jar up. Also, I bet the blue jar will let out some pretty light. If you want softer light, frost the glass first.
