'Lytle took this image of the State Capitol from across North Boulevard, at the intersection of Third Street, ca. 1885.The red paint and cast-iron turrets were added during the restoration of the building, 1880-1882. The turrets were removed - in part by a tornado - in 1917' – Mark E. Martin, in Andrew D. Lytle's Baton Rouge: photographs 1863-1910, (Baton Rouge, LSU Press, 2008), p. 49.
