Blue marble 2012

NASA has proclaimed this image the MOST amazing high definition image of Earth ever. This ‘Blue Marble’ image of the Earth was taken from the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA’s most recently launched Earth-observing satellite – Suomi NPP.

The Black Eye Galaxy, M64. M64’s nickname comes from its striking dark band of dust. The galaxy has an unusual ring of gas and stars that rotates the opposite way to the gas and stars closer to the centre. These and the black eye are thought to have resulted from a collision with another galaxy. - Photo Credit: NASA and The Hubble Heritage Team (AURA/STScI)

The Black Eye Galaxy (Messier is a spiral galaxy with an apparent magnitude of lying approximately 24 million light years from Earth. It is sometimes also called the Sleeping Beauty Galaxy or Evil Eye Galaxy.

Eclipse of Venus -- NASA’s Picture of the Day on Aug.20, 2013. Usually it is the Earth’s Moon that eclipses the Sun. Last June, most unusually, the planet Venus took a turn. Pictured above during the occultation, the Sun was imaged in three colors of ultraviolet light by the Earth-orbiting Solar Dynamics Observatory, with the dark region toward the right corresponding to a coronal hole. The next Venusian solar eclipse will occur in 2117.

Call me crazy but... If technology gets to the point where Space Shuttle flights are as common as airplane flights, I will be the first to buy a ticket just to see the Earth from space and experience zero gravity.
