FINE QUALITY ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI LIDDED BRONZE VASE WITH DRAGONS 1868-1912

An elegant bronze multi-tiered and multi-metal covered urn with archaic handles. On its silver-lined lid, bordered by applied silver and gold sprays, a regal silver, shakudo, bronze and gilt finial of the Buddhist divinity, Fugen Bosatsu sits upon his elephant. On one panel in high relief is a family of cranes among fruiting branches; on the other, sprays of kiku. Hakuho sai gold signature. Height, 12.5". Meiji Period.

A copper-patinated bronze vase marvelously carved as a bamboo basket, a writhing, gold dragon emerging from chiseled breaks in its side. This vase is so realistically modeled, the bamboo so natural and the dragon’s scales so real that it is awe-inspiring to behold. Hamada Terunao elaborately engraved signature on base. Height, 8.25". Meiji Period.
