버마(현 미얀마)에서 발견된 이 목제 도금 불상은 부처의 미소를 짓고 있어 종교 본연의 모습을 담고 있습니다. 수많은 고행과 수행으로 자신을 깨닫고 어떠한 번뇌에도 흔들리지 않는 절대적 정적, 즉 열반의 세계를 체현하여 부처에 이른 모습이 평화로운 표정으로 자연스럽게 묘사되어 있습니다. 금박을 입혀 목재로 조각된 부처의 몸은성스러운 존재써의 부처를 상징합니다. 또한 머리위로는 높게 땋아 올린 나발(부처의 머리카락)은 부처의 신성한 깨우침을 상징합니다. 또한 이 머리 양식은 버마 불교도들의 종교 건축의 전형인 버마 스투파(Burmese stupa)를 모델로 합니다. <샨족 목제 불상 Shan Wooden Gilt Sculpture of a Buddha>, 18 th Century AD to 19 AD, Gilt Wood, Myanmar (Burma), RP. 044 (edited by Koo)
