Learn dressage and compete in a local show. There's also a new thing called cowboy dressage. Like regular dressage only with western gear.

seriously love this. can't count how long it's been since i've seen a horse offering piaffe with an engaged and slightly lowered hind end AND the head and neck in a natural, balanced position (poll is the highest point and face isn't behind the vertical). bonus: look how lovely her equitation is. i want to ride like this.

"Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am deeply inspired by the academic art of riding. I was never drawn to dressage, the few lessons I had in the past both me and my horse did not enjoy. And modern competition dressage I can hardly look at without crying.
