Castor and Polydeuces were the Dioscuri, the "twins" of Gemini, the twin sons of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leda. Their cult spread later on to Rome from Greece via Magna Graecia and the Greek culture of Southern Italy (Magna Graecia was the name of the coastal areas of Southern Italy on the Tarentine Gulf that were colonized by Greek settlers).
