KARPELES MANUSCRIPT LIBRARY MUSEUM -- DULUTH, 902 East 1st Street -- Seemingly out of place in far-off Duluth, themuseum is one of the largest collections of historical documents in the world. Displays are rotated every three months so you never know what you will find, but the collection includes original copies of letters from Darwin and Galileo, Disney contracts, and Wagner’s Wedding March. It can be fascinating to see history with changes written in the margins.

It opened in 1903 and at its peak in 1914 had 150 students.  The curriculum taught Marxism in addition to general education courses.  The Finn College closed in 1940 and the building was converted to apartments.
