The Kyi Leo was recognized as a companion breed in the United States in 1972. It is the result of breeding between the Lhasa Apso & the Maltese. From the Lhasa, the Kyi gets a full-voiced bark which it uses frequently. From the Maltese, it gets an eager-to-please, effervescent personality that fits well with children or other dogs. The Kyi Leo can handle heat well.
