Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus), also known as common pet parakeet or shell parakeet and informally nicknamed the budgie, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Budgerigars are the only species in the Australian genus Melopsittacus, and are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia where the species has survived harsh inland conditions for the last five million years.

Names can sometimes be confusing. West of the Great Dividing Range they are known as the Euro, whilst in Western Australia they can be called Hill Kangaroo. Of course here in Central Australia they are also described locally as Hills Wallaroos and Common Wallaroo.

Fauna: Macropods (Suborder: Macropodiformes) belong to the Class Mammalia (Subclass: Marsupialia). They include well known and popular bettongs, potoroos, kangaroos, wallaroos and wallabies.
