Gunner Thomas Harold Burton was a former yarn merchant’s assistant who enlisted into service in 1915, at the beginning of the Great War. He was posted to the Western Front 5 June 1916 as apart of the 178 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. In 1917, his battery was deployed during the fighting around Cambrai and once again as part of the British defense against the German assault of 1918. On 21 March 1918, during said defense, his leg was severely wounded. He died four days later.
