During an exchange of notes between Germany and the United States on the subject of a ceasefire, it became clear that the Allies regarded the abdication of Wilhelm II as a prerequisite for the suspension of hostilities. Internally, the Social Democrats – who were now part of the parliamentary government demanded Wilhelm’s abdication.
Prince Adalbert of Prussia (1884-1948) was a son of Kaiser Wilhelm II and his first wife, Augusta Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein. Adalbert's family did not think Augusta Viktoria was good enough for his father as she was not a royal princess.
