Rosa Parks was NOT the first black woman to refuse to give up her bus seat. But don't forget, Rosa Parks was a trained activist!

The immortal Alberta Hunter. Lied about her age to start singing in clubs as a teenager (older) lied about her age to become a nurse when her stardom faded (younger and invented a high school diploma.) Forced to retire from nursing when she reached "retirement age" (she was actually over 80) she returned to singing and again recorded, toured Europe, and did weekly sold-out gigs at the Greenwich Village club "The Cookery."

Alberta Hunter blues singer she sang at the Cookery (down the block from ma's on street) till she was very old.
