The vice-admiral's undress uniform coat Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) was wearing when he was fatally shot by a sniper on the deck of HMS Victory on 21 October 1805. There is a bullet hole on the left shoulder, close to the epaulette. Blood stains on tails and left sleeve, are probably those of Nelson’s secretary, John Scott, killed earlier in the action. National Maritime Museum.
