Persian shamshir (sabre), with scabbard, bi-knife and sword belt, 1800s, Blade, inlaid with Persian couplets and dedications, watered crucible steel, seed pearls, gold; hilt, ivory, gold, enamel, pearls; scabbard, wood, fish-skin; belt, canvas, gold thread; mounts, enamel, gold, emeralds, pearls, The Royal Collection.

Long, double-edged blade, each side with a short fuller, the obverse side with a stylised wolf with remnants of brass inlays. Each side of the ricasso with a crescent moon mark of Munich bladesmith Diefstetter. Iron swept hilt with brownish-black patina, rectangular quillons and a sextuply faceted, pear-shaped pommel. Original (minimally damaged at centre) spirally fluted grip with iron wire wrapping. Length 117 cm. All parts of this hand-and-a-half sword are original, with beautiful patina.
