1899 Crouch Steam Runabout W. Lee Crouch began in a machine shop in New Brighton, Penn. in 1895 when he built a gasoline-powered automobile. 1896, he tried again, finishing the car & entering it in a race (it didn't finish). A few years later he was back at it with steam. It is thought Crouch only built 3 cars, the last 2 being steamers & this one, the only survivor & the only one built by Crouch Automobile Manufacturing & Transportation Company in Baltimore.
