Woman's Language: Nushu is a phonetic version of Chinese used exclusively by women in the Hunan Province in southern China from some time around the 13th century until the late 19th century. The language arose because most women in that era did not have the same access to formal education as did men. See post for more info.

Nüshu is a syllabic script created and used exclusively by women in the Jiangyong County in Hunan province of southern China. Since its discovery in Nüshu remains to be the only gender-specific writing system in the world.
