View of excavations. Zeugma, Turkey, was founded by the Macedonian Seleucid ruler Nicator I, this Hellenistic city grew in prosperity during Roman times since it lay on the Silkroad to China. Zeugma’s mosaics, ceramics, statues, and frescos are spectacular. Sagalassos - Although the ruins were discovered in 1706, excavations in Ephesus and other west coast cities attracted all the attention and Sagalassos was forgotten until a British-Belgian team started surveying the site in 1985. A Belgian Catholic Univ has been un covering & restoring the monuments, mosaics and relics of the ancient city. This remarkable archaeological site can be visited as a day trip from Antalya, or can be done en route from Konya or Pamukkale to Antalya.
