A small Omotic tribe related to the Hamar, who live along the banks of the Omo River in southwestern Ethiopia, the Karo are renowned for their elaborate body painting using white chalk, crushed rock and other natural pigments. Typically for a Karo woman, the mother has ochred her hair in tight ringlets and has a ring through her bottom lip.
