We had 3 channels, but on a good day we could also 'tune in' channel 45. We used aluminum foil on the antenna to get better reception.

Had a tv like this in my bedroom as a kid. Black and white picture. Would put tin foil on the antenna to get better reception. I remember getting to stay up past my bed time to watch Monday Night Football.

Console TVs. Early TV manufacturers, trying to make the TV blend into American living rooms, constructed simple wooden consoles to set the TV screen and mechanicals into. As times and tastes "evolved," these consoles became more ornate, finally reaching the "Zenith" of tastelessness in the 1970s and early 1980s. Weighing about as much as a Buick Skylark, moving these behemoths was nearly impossible, resulting in thousands of homes with permanent indentations in the carpeting.

Giant console TV sets with no remote, and your parents made you get up and turn the channel lol. I remember we got our first remote tv when I was 6 years old.
