Papua New Guinea, Abelam shell (tridacna gigas), flattened, round opening in the centre, several notches on the upper rim, accentuated by red paint, knotted plant fibre ornament with shells, natural grains, slightly dam., fine crack; for the Abelam the word "yua" means "shell ring", "pal" describes the hornbill. His beak is looked upon as archetype for the notches engraved in the ring, marking the operations the respective owner executed (pig sacrifice, marriage etc.) D: 23,5 cm
