Mariska Hargitay, aka Olivia Benson - Of Law and Order SVU fame is a really strong representation of women in the media. She isn't the typical female character we see on a television show. Olivia has a lot of power in the work place and her opinion matters. She is an important detective in her precinct, people respect her. However, she is depicted as being obsessed with her job and unable to hold down a relationship with a man which is clearly shown as a negative thing.
