Cincinnati puppeteer Larry Smith, with Hattie the Witch (Old batty Hattie from Cincinnati), Snarfie our dog, Teaser Mouse, Rudy the Rooster, and the rest of the gang. Watched every afternoon at 3:00 after school.
In 1997 under coach Larry Smith, the Tigers posted their first winning record since 1983. Corby Jones led the team at quarterback. Mizzou came within "one stinkin' play" (that is what coach Smith called it) of knocking off #1 Nebraska, which would have stopped NU from getting a share of a national title, in the last season for legendary coach Tom Osborne. Coach Smith had several great victories at Mizzou, but unfortunately, "the big one that got away" is the one everyone remembers.

“When I see someone off, I do not use the “L” word: luck. I don’t even use the word in exams. My students will never hear me wish them ‘good luck.’ That is what is wrong with our world. Too many people have decided that at the end of the day it really is just about luck. It is the great excuse to avoid applying effort to an endeavor. I wish my students something different, as I wish you. I wish you success.” — Larry Smith
