Skates and skate key - These were the old-style roller skates that you clamped on the sole of your shoe and tightened to fit snugly on with a skate a key. During the summers we lived on our roller skates playing cowboys and Indians and cops and robbers. Feet and legs would tingle long after removing the skates at night. I had my Mom's since she was never allowed to use them after falling once. They were like new. Mine are long gone, but the key is in my china cabinet.

Exactly like my first pair of roller skates. You put your feet in them (with your shoes on), strapped them on, then tightened the toe hold with the key. "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key.

Did you ever open a can with a key?

Cans where you needed a 'key' that was attached to the bottom to open it up. I sure do remember opening cans with a key.
