Mourning card for Prince Max of Hesse-Cassel (1894-1914), son of Princess Margarete of Prussia, sold in aid of Hessian troops in Alsace-Lorraine during World War I. Max, the second of Margarete's six sons, entered the war as a nineteen year old subaltern in the Prussian 1st Hussars. In October 1914, his column of cavalry was resting at the monastery on the Mont des Cats, near Bailleul in Belgium.
